Victor Espinoza is a decorated Thoroughbred horseracing jockey, known worldwide for winning the elusive Triple Crown.
Growing up on a farm in Hidalgo, Mexico, Victor always dreamed of one day competing in the Kentucky Derby. So it’s no surprise that the city of Louisville quickly captured his heart.
Victor first experienced Louisville in the early 2000s. He was an up-and-coming young jockey, ready to realize his dreams at the historic Churchill Downs. And realize them he did. In 2002, he rode War Emblem to victory in the Kentucky Derby, a feat he would repeat twice more in the coming years. And in 2015, atop American Pharoah, he also prevailed in the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, securing the first Triple Crown victory in 37 years. Victor Espinoza is the first Latino to capture the Crown. In the annals of horse racing history, he is a true trailblazer.
Though he’s raced the world over, Victor remains deeply attached to the city that launched his legend, Louisville. He marvels at its prefect blend of big city feel and small town charm. It’s a place of rich history, serene landscapes, delicious barbeque, and world-class bourbon. And don’t get Victor started on Fourth Street Live! He can barely contain his excitement as he talks about Louisville’s premier destination for dining and entertainment.
Victor is royalty in Louisville. But he loves the city as much as it loves him. It’s his heart. “Mi corazón.”
